Hip arthroscopy should be a standard procedure in all large sports medicine centers today.
The old open surgery techniques including severing of the bone (trochanteric osteotomy) and massive disruption of soft body parts should be a thing of the past.
Unfortunately, hip arthroscopy is technically very complicated and requires many years of expe-rience. This is the main reason why many orthopedic specialists still perform open surgery today and do not use minimal invasive techniques.
- Thorough exam and evaluation via MRI by a specialist
- Check-in to the hospital in the morning
- Surgery: about 45 minutes to 1 hour
- Operation: ca. 45 – 60 Minuten
- Mobilization with physical therapy and instructions
- Departure from the hospital
- Use of cruches for about 2 weeks.
- Week 4-6: physiotherapy
- After week 6: regular exercise, home trainer, crawl, cross trainer, etc
- After month 4: “go and stop” sport disciplines
